from what i understand dreams are pretty much made by a potpourri of smells, sights, sounds, etc. that we have either experienced, read, seen or heard about some time in our lives.

being that, is it possbile for someone like Helen Keller to have had "normal" sensory dreams? if yes, then how?

I have alot of dreams, i write my down when i get the time.
I don't believe our dreams are only from what we have seen, heard or the other senses.

Yes our dreams do use these things to help pass on messages to us.. Like showing us an image say a kitten, some like kittens so the person would be happy, the subconscious would take note of that image and feeling and use it again.

Hence why there are dream dictionary's. but best to make your own, as you know what you like. no one can tell you what you like.

i feel our dreams are sometimes messages from our subconscious to ourselves, like issues we haven't dealt with or even higher messages, like predictions etc.

So on that note. Children dream of far away places.. if they have never seen or heard these images before how can we explain them. even the blind dream.

Just my thoughts.

All dreams are not like what you've mentioned. It is believed that when you're sleeping your spirit detaches from your body and since your spirit is not something physical, it is not limited in time and it can travel through time. Some of our dreams are what our spirits are seeing at the moment of sleeping.
