PROBLEM 1

2y^3 * 5y^6.

In a multiplication (where the base is the same), you multiply the coefficients (2 and 5) and you add the exponents (3 and 6). So the answer is:

10y^9

PROBLEM 2

Division by 0 is undefined... there is *no* answer other than to say the result is undefined.

You can see this if you had -6 = 0x. When you try to solve for x you get -6/0 = x, but we know that there is *no* value of x that will multiply by 0 and give -6. Thus we say that division by 0 is disallowed and the result is undefined. In later math, you can compute the limit as x approaches 0 of 1/x and you'll find that the result approaches infinity.

PROBLEM 3

u^15/u^8

This is similar to multiplication but you *divide* the coefficients (if any) and *subtract* the exponents.

In this example, all you have to do is subtract the exponents so you get:

u^7

2y^3*5y^6 = 10y^9

-6/0 = undetermined cannot divide by zero

u^15/u^8 = u^7

the first one is 10y^9
the second one is 0.any thing divided by 0 is 0.
u^15/u^8 = u^15-8
U = u^7
