I have a Sony Vaio PCV-RS630G. It came with an ATI Radeon 9200 which works fine (just can't play the newest graphic heavy games of course).

I bought and installed an ATI Radeon X1300 (AGP 8x/4x). I connected it to my power supply and knew it had power because I felt the graphics card fan working. I connected the monitor and turned the computer on... but the monitor never turned on. I knew the moniter had power because it had the orange "sleep" light on. However, the light never turned green and the monitor never turned turned on after I installed the new graphics card.

I put the old card back in and the light turned green and the monitor turned on as usual. I put the new card in again and nothing! Yes, I made sure the card was seated. It appears as if the computer does not recognize the card being present.

What am I doing wrong? What do I need to do? Is the card just defective? Please help me if you can. I really appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

I see people are talking about drivers but would drivers really be the issue if the problem is that the monitor does not start up from sleep mode when the new card is installed?

For the record, the instructions say to disable old drivers, install new card, start computer, THEN install new drivers. I am unable to do the last part if my monitor does not start up at all.

Sounds like a bad card, not a driver issue. Since the amber light never turned green. If it was a driver issue, you would see the boot up info first then when it got to windows it would go blank.
Card is compatible also

Aint sure what your installation manual says but usually this is due to not removing the original driver and installing the windows default driver. Leave your old card in and open your device manager and uninstall the display driver. Reboot the PC and when it says new hardware found, cancel any attempt to install a driver. Shut your PC down again and install the new card. Reboot and when new hardware is found, select have disk. It may find the driver on the disk or you may have to direct it to the proper driver using the browse button. Once the proper driver is installed, reboot and you should be good to go! If this doesnt get it, make sure your PC fits the cards requirements for the card and if it does, contact ATI and look for updated drivers.

Did you check for hardware compatability? Did you install the drivers? Run the setup disk and instal EVERYTHING. Then see if it works. It sounds like a dirver issue to me.

X1300 has higher display resolution than 9200. Try to get into safe mode and to see if it is because your display resolution is too high that your monitor cannot supports.

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
