There is no such thing as the "best" microscope in the world. All scientific instruments, like all man-made things, are a compromise between what you need and what is possible with the available technology. The best microscope in the world is the one that does the job you need it to do best, for example I need a microscope that has a magnification only to a maximum of 100x, gives a stereoscopic image, has a very long working distance and can be used with a variety of lighting systems including U.V. for fluorescence. An electron microscope, although a fantastic tool, is of no use to me whatsoever. Calculate exactly what you need your microscope to do and then you can find which is the best in the world for your purpose.

Transmission Electron Aberration-corrected Microscope
The TEAM project is expected to yield such results as:

* the first three-dimensional atomic imaging of defect structures ,
* the first atomic structure determination of a glass
* understanding of magnetism and ferroelectricity in nanostructures at the microscopic level,
* visualizing dislocation interactions in nanostructures under controlled stress,
* advancing interface science to the level of surface science,
* understanding grain boundary motion under stress in nanocrystals, and
* imaging defects in the oxygen sub-lattice of complex oxides.
