Our towels hang approx. 2 feet above a heat register. We have the type of towel holder that holds one towel in front of the other. The towel against the wall changes colors. I bought a heat deflector that directs the heat from the register towards the ground and it's still happening. My question is, why doesn't the heat in the dryer change the color of the towels, like the heat from the register- if that's what's causing the change?

It may also be hard water - it happened to my towels and colored t-shirts. I started to use vinegar in my rinse cycle and it made a huge difference.

Any heat will eventually affect the color of your towels. The dryer heat is just temporary, besides the fact that it tumbles the towels as they dry, so it takes a while to notice any fading.

If your towels are hanging right above your heat register, I´m sure they´re drying quite rapidly, but think about it, your "cooking" them. If you left them out in the sun all day to line-dry, they´d fade along the top edge.

If you want to save the color on your towels, you might want to find a different place for your towel rack.

Good luck :-)

maybe it has something to do with the metal on the towel rack.
