World War I had other names (The Great War and The War To End All wars) before it got the name "World War I", which makes sense only in the context of concluding that the war that became known as World War II was the second world war. So when and how these names came about? I posted this question on the discussion pages of Wikipedia and so far there is no answer.

WW1 was the first war to include combattants from all continents. That's why it was considered the first WORLD war
WW2 was a similar ordeal

For the same reason that the next war will be World War 111, because it will involve us all!!

interesting question....i only knew that they were named like that because were involved a lot of countries all over the world from all continents...that's the only answer my history teachers could give.

yeah, like he said. these were the first conflicts to involve more than two countries on both sides. thats how they classify it now. these we're just names given by the communities of the countries. you know by popular saying.
