He's a psychologist but fame seems to have gone to his head. His wife is now handing out advice and Dr. Phil just settled a lawsuit because his diet books weren't helping anyone. Nice guy but he's taking too much on.

Dr. Phillip McGraw, PhD. became a daytime television celebrity thanks to his weekly appearances on the popular talk show of Oprah Winfrey. Beginning in 1998, Dr. Phil, as he is known, was a weekly guest on the show, where he offered relationship advice to couples willing to face up to his no-nonsense demands to "get real." Prior to his appearances with Oprah, McGraw founded and headed Courtroom Sciences, Inc., a litigation consulting firm that specialized in helping legal teams select jurors. In 2002 he created his own syndicated daytime talk show, Dr. Phil. His books include Life Strategies (2000), Self Matters (2001) and Ultimate Weight Solution: the 7 Keys to Weight Loss Freedom (2003).
Born in Vinita, Oklahoma, to Jo and Jerry McGraw, McGraw grew up in the oilfields of North Texas, where his father was an equipment supplier. Midway through his childhood, his family packed up and moved so that his father could pursue a lifelong dream of becoming a psychologist. McGraw attended high school at Shawnee Mission North High School in Mission, Kansas. He was given a football scholarship to attend the University of Tulsa, but was injured and forced to transfer to Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas. McGraw graduated from the Midwestern State University in 1975 with a B.A. (Bachelor of Arts) in psychology, and then went on to get a Masters in experimental psychology and a Doctorate in clinical psychology at the University of North Texas

however, he disagreed with the approaches psychiatrists used because they didn't get any damn results, so he uses his own approaches to get better results.
