hmm... no I wasn't actually aware of that, but I'll take your word for it. I would have the child empty the bag out each night and be sure to remove things they don't absolutely need to be hauling around, back and forth, all the time. In North America they are encouraged to leave some of their belongings in the lockers at the school... not sure if there is something like that where you are? A backpack is better for carrying stuff in than a briefcase-type bag.... more even distribution of the weight.
All the best!

Last time I was watching a random Chinese channel through the satellite. There was this bag, and the name literally means "space bag". And it makes the bag lighter even if you have a heavy load. The secret to this miracle is that they put a frame at the backpack so it supports the weight of the bag by converting the weight pressed on the shoulders to the waist. But I don't think I literally answered your question.... But hope this enlightenes you a bit of this thing. Hooray for physics!

1) The schools should use online textbooks. Students without computers at home can be given laptops.
2) Schools give WAY too much homework. See "The Homework Myth" and several other books. Most shocking thing is that absolutely NO study has ever shown more than 30 minutes of homework a day has any positive benefit. No homework = no textbooks to bring home.
3) Maintain extra textbooks at the school. Let the students keep a copy at home and a copy at school. As a parent, you can buy duplicates yourself.

That is a good idea no doubt. But there are practical difficulties in that too. 1. Books are used not only in school but also at home. 2. Lockers can be used and can be misused. Like students specially teenagers can use it for keeping illegal stuff like drugs etc. 3. In our nation, where we don't have required infrastructure in schools such as desk, chairs, fans, and even teachers, in many schools, the nice to have features like lockers are like a dream. 4. The cost of lockers will be on the parents, because I am sure, not only the lockers will be projected as extra facilities by school and fee will be increased but also schools will be charging rent for the lockers. But overall the idea is good, and if implemented under close surveillance can help.

Lighter books, the bags with wheels on them that you can pull around, higher quality school bags that distribute weight more evenly, photocopy the lesson out of the books each week so you only have to cary around the photocopy

First of all make sure the back pack straps are adjusted so that the backpack sits on the back and not pulling the person down. Also only take books home if needed. Don't carry unessesary extra paper
Also use both straps of the back pack!

Dear Palakurthy Rama Murthy,
I suggest you that children that sit together should agree to bring books in turns-that would reduce the number of them. We did so in our russian school.
