I know a lot but i am related to all of them. My uncle owns the most Honest auto shop in the whole state......he even shaves the prices if he knows the person can't really afford the fix. But I do all my own car work......to get past the act just sound like you know what your talkin about. Or have someone there with you that they will assume knows a thing or two about cars. like if you go in there cause you have a squeak everytime you turn a corner and they say oh we have to aline the front end and then replace this and that....it really just means that you have some loose belts and they need replaced.

My husband is an honest mechanic, but you're right, there are many shifty ones out there. Educate yourself and if you still don't feel right about a diagnosis from a mechanic, get a second opinion; just don't let the second opinion know that there's a first...

word of mouth, and staying power. I used to take my VW Jetta to a distinctive mechanic each time, hoping that at some point i could come across a stable one. ultimately, on the advice of a buddy, I took it to a dinky little storage in Chicago that i wouldn't in any respect have long previous into on my own, and informed him approximately my continual overheating undertaking. in assessment to another mechanic who had regarded at it, he quoted a lower priced ($25 put in!), informed me the particular section that mandatory to be fastened (with out staring on the vehicle!) and while he swapped the section, it replaced into *fastened*. For stable. under no circumstances had the priority back. That guy stored my Jetta working years longer than it would desire to have, and constantly charged me a useful value. save looking until you come across somebody you're gentle with, and who can in simple terms restoration the vehicle -- that's the main severe undertaking, authentic? inexpensive costs do not remember in the event that they'd't restoration the priority interior the 1st place.

I think I have been ripped off many times with mechanics. I boyfriend and his best friend work on cars. They do everything for me, and never charge labor... they are the only car guys i trust.

I believe the people at Toyota are honest. They DON'T tell you everything is wrong and give you extraordinary service. One I've never seen before.
