Yes, you can... Maybe... I'm just thankful I don't know you, so nothing like that will appear in my e-mail inbox. Messages with embedded graphics and colored text are basically sent in a form of HTML or Rich Text Format.

The problem is that this makes the e-mail many times larger that it needs to be, putting excess load on mail servers and consuming bandwidth... Not to mention taking up more space on the hard drive of the person you are sending it to.

This format also poses security risks. RTF messages can be used to plant viruses and spyware as soon as the e-mail is opened.

Those of us who have to work to keep the Internet running smoothly so you get all your e-mail despise RTF-encoded e-mail. Unless you are sending it to an AOL or Yahoo user, most of us set our e-mail software to ignore the RTF and display plain text only. You may want to verify that the recipient can even view RTF e-mail before you go to all the work.

After all that, if you still want to do the border thing, it will depend on what you are using to send the e-mail. If you are using a real e-mail address, and not something like Yahoo or Hotmail, you can compose a message using "stationery" in Outlook Express or Microsoft Outlook. A wide variety of stationery and borders may be downloaded from the Microsoft web site, if what you like is not already included. You can also compose your e-mail in Microsoft Word, and paste it into a blank e-mail.

If you are using MSN, Hotmail, Yahoo Mail, or any other web-based e-mail account, a border may not be possible. But there is an easy way around this limitation.

Use a program such as the basic Windows Paint or something more advanced like Paint Shop Pro to compose a larger picture. You paste the border and picture you want to include into this picture. Add the text of the e-mail, and save it to your desktop as a .JPG image file.

Now attach the .JPG image to a blank e-mail and send. Not only will they see the bordered image as you intended, but they can save it to their computer and keep it as a souvenir.

Stationery for Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express can be found here:

The short answer is you don't, there's no easy way to add a border without having 4 different pictures for the different sides, and even then you have to use html.... Oh, and the image won't be displayed in many email clients.
