I agree that the constitution is out dated! I live in Australia and we have very strict laws related to the right to keep and bear arms. The laws weren't as strict as they are now up until the Port Arthur Massacre, when a gunman killed 35 people at Port Arthur in Tasmania, this was Australia worst massacre and forced our government to review our laws on keeping weapons. Since the introduction of the new laws, the ammount of deaths and injuries caused by guns have dropped considerably, and we now have one of the lowest rates of death and injury caused by guns in the world. I beleive that introducing the same law in America would help lower the ammount of deaths and injuries. As it is now America has one of the highest death and injury by gun rates.

Missouri passed a law allowing citizens with no criminal record, or arrests for assault to carry a concealed weapon. St Louis passed a city ordinance making it a crime to carry in the city limits. St Louis was just picked as the most "dangerous" US city to live in. The rest of the state's violent crime rate lowered. What does that tell you? New York City and Washington DC have the strictest gun laws in the world. Tougher than Australia's. Want to wander those streets at night alone and unarmed? The problem is in the people, not the weapon they choose. If I, as a male, want to use strong armed robbery as a means to get money, I would prefer that no one has a gun. A women or elderly person with a gun can kill me to stop me. With a knife or any other weapon including a stun gun, I can take them out every time with a bat.

It's attitudes like that that are outdated, lame, and insulting. Very intelligent, astute, and experienced (in what living under oppression really was) types of CITIZENS wrote, rewrote and added/subtracted edited, argued, considered, explained and accepted the Constitution. They added a Bill of RIGHTS to expressly guarantee that the govt. can't stifle, tyrannize, restrict, or interfere in the Peoples rights freedoms and liberties. The real world DOESN'T WANT TO "JUST ALL GET ALONG." with us.
It's now a proven undeniable FACT that more guns really do equal less crime. 40 states now have concealed carry permits and in ALL of them, crime of all kinds has dropped dramatically, and so have gun accidents! More are people getting educated about guns and the responsibilities that go with them.
Grow up! The police, Sheriffs, state or fed govt. can NOT protect you from anything. They can only respond AFTER a crime and a victim(s) or dead bodie(s) are created. Only YOU, ultimately, can save your own life! You can't do it unarmed. Don't live in the imaginary world of liberalism! Come out into the light of truth.

The people will not give up their guns....and it is not the guns that commit the crime ....its the people....
If you believe guns is the cause of crime and rounding them up will make the crime go away...why don't you use your computer and check and see if Europe has crimes...I know recently in England they were looking for a person who was killing hookers...
by the way...if they outlawed guns in the country...the outlaws would never admit to having a gun let a lone give them up.......it would only be the law abiding citizens that hand theirs over...so ,you wouldn't be taking the guns out of the hands criminals... only those who might need them for protection against those who would do them harm.......

Yes in some sense its out dated. The amendment was aimed at ensuring that people were armed to prevent the US from having to have a standing army, which was believed to be a threat to the republic, as it was with other republics. As such it had little to do with having a hunting rifle.
I think its fine to support people's right to have a gun for hunting etc, but there is obviously some sensible limitation that must be imposed. I don't think that even the craziest gun nuts would endorse people having rockets, missles, nuclear weapons etc. The real question is where is that line.

I fully believe the Democrats would love to take our gun rights away. This gives them yet more power to control the people. As the others have said, guns don't kill people, people kill people. Ask yourself a question, if you take away our right to bear firearms, do you think magically crime will go away? NO! It's been proven time and time again that, the criminals will always find a way to get weapons. NORMAL, law abiding, good people, don't go around with their LEGAL firearms and start shooting people up.
Look you have to be a total fool to believe that banning guns would fix our crime problems. Pal, it doesn't work that way! Just like people can get drugs, or bootleg copies of software, there is always a way to find illegal goods. And, of course criminals would find ways to get guns even if they were outlawed. Taking away gun rights in American will bring us one step closer to being a communist nation.
I really wonder what the Liberals are cooking up to make it harder to legally own firearms? I can see them raising the cost of FOID cards to 1000 dollars, or something ridiculous like that. This way not only is it harder to get firearms legally, but they (Liberals) can use that money to provide medical care and welfare to illegal aliens.

You obviously have never been outside of New York City. Guns are popular for hunting and protection in all of the red states and the non-urban parts of the blue states. What you advocate is the sum total of the nightmares of every legal gun owner in the country. It will not happen. Plus it would be tantamount to political suicide merely to propose it. It also is incorrect. Keeping guns out of the hands of felons is the key, not denying shop owners and home owners the right to protect themselves from violent predators.

many, many Americans will never give up their guns and the Supreme Court of the U.S.A. would never support the government if they passed a law that would require Americans to give up guns. Armed citizens is the only real thing that keeps criminals in check, not the cops as most believe.

The guns do not commit the crimes - I legally carry a gun everyday and use it for protection only. When guns are banned, only the bad people will carry them - how do we, the good people, defend ourselves from them? Telling someone to stop robbing us will have little effect even if you ask nicely! WMDs are different all together - I agree they ALL need to go!

If guns were outlawed, only outlaws would have them. Look at the crime stats in Australia after the gun ban. All armed crime rose dramatically.A armed citizen is a safe citizen. You have every right to defend your life and property.
