I was given a stuffed Koala when i was a child,
Glass eyes and a rubber nose, real fur and the claws were cut out pieces of felt.
I loved my Koala.
only because of the fur, it felt soft even though the whole thing was quiet solid.
It dosent come down to the animal but the softness of it.
like back when people where hunting and killing for food..
Skins where made into clothes and toys for the kids.

Not all bears are ferocious....I'm not! lol. Seriously though, not all bears are nasty. Teddy bears are stuffed animals that originating when Theodore Roosevelt saved a bear. Teddy Bears are cute and cuddly. Small children find security in them which is why they choose them as "nap items." Knowing children feel secure with a soft, cuddly teddy bear, Teddy's have become a preferred gift for children.

The story of the Teddy Bear . . .
Many of us have loved a teddy bear.
Maybe we've even had more than one very special "teddy" in our lives. Here is the real story of how the teddy bear sprang into our hearts.
Nearly 100 years ago, President Theodore Roosevelt, went on a bear hunt. He enjoyed nature and being out in the woods where animals lived. Because he was the President of the United States, the people organizing the hunt wanted to make sure the hunt was successful.
But after 3 days of walking and climbing and riding, no bears were found. Now what? The President's bear hunt would be a failure!
The next day the hunt guide and his hunting dogs finally found an old bear. The dogs and guide followed the bear for quite a distance until the bear was very, very tired. The dogs attacked and injured the old bear. The guides tied the bear to a tree and called for the President. Here was a bear for him to shoot!
President Roosevelt looked at the poor old bear and said "no!" No one would shoot this old bear for sport. That would not be right. However, the bear was injured and suffering. President Roosevelt ordered that the bear be put down to end its pain.
A political cartoonist by the name of Clifford Berryman heard this story. A political cartoonist draws about current events in the news. Mr. Berryman drew a cartoon showing how President Roosevelt refused to shoot the bear while hunting in Mississippi.
If you look at the first cartoon that was printed about the President's bear hunt you see Theodore Roosevelt in the front. In the back is the guide with a bear tied on a leash. Notice that the guide and the bear are about the same size, suggesting a grown bear.
Look at the cartoon which appeared later in other papers. It has been redrawn. The bear is smaller than the guide. The bear is shaking with fear. This cute bear cub began to appear in other cartoons which Clifford Berryman drew throughout Theodore Roosevelt's career.
So that is how a bear became connected to the name of President Theodore Roosevelt.

But where do toy "teddy bears" come from?
After this famous cartoon appeared in the papers, a shopkeeper, Morris Michtom took two stuffed toy bears which his wife had made and put them in his shop window. He had an idea.
Mr. Michtom asked for permission from President Theodore Roosevelt to call these toy bears "Teddy's bears". This store eventually became the Ideal Novelty and Toy Company.
Other stuffed animals were made by a German company, Steiff. An illness left Margaret Steiff unable to walk. She refused to be stopped by her handicap and earned her living by sewing. First she made stuffed elephants, then other animals. In 1903 an American saw a stuffed bear she had made and ordered many of them.
The phrase caught on. Now toy bears are often called teddy bears!

Well - one, bears aren't ferocious unless you scare/startle them... even grizzlies (not sure about polar bears), if they know you're coming, and you don't get between them and their kiddies... will generally just move on...
Been to Yellowstone, wandered some really remote locations... all cool - the book that covers deaths in Yellowstone reports few actual bear related deaths, and most involved people doing truly stupid things (poking a baby bear with a stick... or was it an umbrella...).
As for teddy bears, the origin of the name actually dates to Teddy Roosevelt (don't recall if he was president or not at the time) - he was being 'treated' to a hunt, but refused to shoot a baby bear staged as his target... end result was publicity and the origin of our 'Teddy Bear'...

Not everyone will see things the same. Some people see clowns as scary while others see it as funny! Stuffed animals dont represent the real thing. It's just so children can have fun using their imaginations. When they grow up, they'll understand. They make it in a way that the stuffed animal teddy bears look cute and harmless. They also make barbie dolls with blonde hair...in real life a barbie doll is a bimbo! lol It's just the way society is and does things, I guess :)
It also had something to do with a man named Teddy Roosevelt! It was named after him.

The Teddy bear gets its name from President Theodore (Teddy) Roosevelt who went hunting one day and was frightened by a bear cub. The others on his hunting party got such a laugh at him being scared of a little cub that when the story reached the States one toy manufacture decided to capitalize on it and the Teddy Bear was born.

They are only ferocious if they are starving or you provoke them. Bears are cute, besides if we took away teddies because they were ferocious what about he other animals. Or cartoons. even some dogs can be mean, should we get rid of all of them...
