I'm working with a hp slide show and my project contains1.9 GB of information. all goes well until I try to burn it to a 4.7 GB DVD disc. At which time, a pop up says that my project failed and that I need to increase the virtual memory on the computer. I am using a hp DVD writer.

The other person is full of ****. They just don't know how to do it. You use a portion of your hard drive as your virtual memory. It is quicker and cheaper than actually buying more ram. Just go to control panel, then system properties, then click on the advanced tab. Performance should come up. Click on settings and click on the advanced tab. Once you are there the option to change your virtual memory should appear. Change it to something that your computer can actually handle. I wouldn't go over 1.5 gigs depending on the size of your hard drive.

Increasing the Virtual Memory is quite easy, however, I suggest that you do a disk cleanup first to clear some unused diskspace. After doing that, go to Control Panel/System/Advanced then select the performance Settings Tab. When a pop-up window from the performance tab comes up, select Advanced Tab, then you can find at the bottom Virtual Memory. If you still have a lot of disk space up it to 744 MB.

You need RAM. You can add some but if you do not know what ram is then you need to do lots of research before you will know enough about ram.

Talk to someone that knows lots about computers or someone at a PC shop they can help you get started see what the best option would be for you.

There are lots of different types of ram so talk it over with a tech.

Note: You can close background tasks and other programs that may temporally clear up enough ram to help you. So when you are burning close any other program or process you do not need.

Virtual memory is just taking space off the Hard Drive and using it as RAM. I actually don't know how it is done in windows, but in GNU/Linux, it is handled by a seperate partition called swap space that you set up at the beginning of the install.
