Lets restate the information.
In a school with 125 seniors, how many underclassmen are there if there are 5 underclassmen to every senior (5:1 restated in the correct order as the English above). In otherwords. there are 5 times as many underclassmen as seniors.

So the answer must be 5 * 125 or 625 underclassmen.

The ratio is 1:5 meaning for every 1 senior there is
5 underclassmen .
Now if you have 125 seniors :
125 * 5 = 625 underclassmen.

another way of solving this:
seniors undercalss
1/125 = 5/x
1 = 5*125/x
x = 625 underclassmen
