Do most women see it as a weakness and take advantage of it?Or is it very much appreciated?Even among the roughest of women.

Most (not all) women happily accept gentlemenly gestures.
However, only "ladies" actually appreciate it and reciprocate.
"Non-ladies" have a sense of entitlement and thus don't bother to acknowledge these optional gestures nor consider how they can reciprocate in some way.

I think it is the way every guy should be. I do not see it as a weakness at all, and it is very much appreciated. But unfortunately it is very rare to find a guy like that anymore. Most Men just aren't gentlemen or respectful to women anymore. Look at all the pornography,all over the TV, Internet,radio, magazines, etc. Does that make men respect women??Those women and men don't even respect themselves. You are a rare breed, and if a women cannot appreciate you for being a gentlemen and being respectful..forget her and move on to someone who is dying for a guy like you.

It is appreciated and it is NOT A SIGN OF WEAKNESS! I work with men...(truck drivers) Not a group of boy's known for being nice or respectful any day..however, many are very nice and will tell outsider's that come in and out of our terminal, to watch the language, open doors, and have decent manners.
If they can do it everyone else can. Would a woman or women take advantage of it?...People will take advantage of people no matter what, you will find nasty opportunist people almost anywhere you look today...don't go down to their level. I suppose you could say that I would be one of the rougher woman, since my job doesn't allow for me to be a delicate flower, especially when I am climbing up the side of freightliner yelling at a driver.
I appreciate it and have respect for it. Hope that helps out.

Being respectful is what any human being should do. Both men and women. Unfortunately many people take that as weakness.

I'm a gentleman, and while it may be true nice guys finish last, why would I care about finishing quickly? I prefer to take my sweet time. But yes, women sometimes take advantage of it, though I no longer allow anyone to do so.

It all depends on the setting and the woman involved.
I've never had a problem with it personally, but there are some women that would rather open their own doors and pay for their own meals.

it really depends on the woman. I know people who think it's funny, people who like the behavior, and some (few) think it's disrespectfull.
no one really sees it as a weakness unless the man carries himself weak, and usually a woman doesn't take advantage of gentlemanly behavior.

Its not a weakness and you only get what you give. Personally I love it when someone is being a gentleman and respect full......I'm even teaching my sons to be that way.

I think that at the start of a relationship they take it for granted. Once the guy turns out to be a jerk...they would do anythign to have him be how he was in the beginning.
