i remember reading somewhere that mozart composed jingle bells when he was 5 years old

It wasn't Jingle Bells that he composed, it was Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.

The theme of that piece is actually a folk song, called "Ah je vous diras Mamman". Mozart took that melody (which we now know as Twinkle) and composed 12 variations on it. But, he wasn't 5 years old. I think he was closer to a teenager when he wrote that.

However, Mozart did write pieces when he was 5!! Just not Jingle Bells.

Jingle Bells was written by James Pierpont, who was originally from Conneticut, and it was released in 1859, 100 years after Mozart's birth.
