But we also have a society in which a person of mixed heritage faces the problem that if they portray themselves as more white, or are lighter skinned, then the "black" segment of the culture accuses them of selling out their race and not being "black enough"
race, tenuous? do you fliiping think? of course it is, and sadly I don't know when it will change.

Well any "white" person is Euro-American, If their "black" part was completely denied then that would open a whole new can of worms, it is both politically correct and "in" to claim one's "black" background. In FLorida High Schools everyone is Puerto Rican, that is what's "in" there. I do agree that only referring or always referring to one's "African" descent reenforces racist attitudes, Halle Berry was the first African American woman to egt a best actress Oscar, she too is half white. Mariah Carey is more recently embracing her "Blackness" more so.

ITs the one drop rule. If you got one drop of Black in you then thats what you are, or some half/quater breed. Hence the terms Mullato (mule) or Quadroon (quarter black). HOrrible terms. Or even the fact that we have a Black HIstory MOnth, which should just be Americna HIstory but unfortunatly not. IT is segregated.

Oh come on now, you already know why, If you have any black in you , that means you are black.....This is America, been like that for years...and it will not change..Ancestors of all races would have been able to pass those stories, about the the massa.
It's all about those dominant genes.

Tenuous yes, but its all about context and intent. What the hell does white or black really mean anyway I think science has proved that the cradle of civilization was in Africa and that means we all come from common ancestors anyway.

I have a question? Why does our pride in being black unnerve white people. It seems like you want us to blend in and not be unique. And instead of asking black people you need to contact the Aryans, white supremacist, and neo Nazis and ask them that question.

I guess all that DNA Tiger's daddy means nothing? Tiger actually had a word to explain what all was included in hos heratige. I can't recall it, but it referred to all three parts of his make up.
