Seriously, I haven't bought any Rock CDs since Collective Soul. Queens of The Stone Age are good, but they are a 'rotating band', I need a current one from this century. Haven't truly liked anything for awhile. What's your favorite-good, hard rock, no "alternative" or annoying 'pop" stuff. thanks.

I really like Stone Sour. Their song "Through Glass" is awesome. I also really like The All-American Rejects, Snow Patrol, The Killers, My Chemical Romance, and Fall Out Boy. Daughtry has a few good songs too. And I don't like Hinder, but everyone else seems to. My all time favorite band is Cowboy Mouth. They aren't as main stream, but they are better than most bands I've heard. And seeing them live is a religious experience! Some of these do lean toward punk and alternative, but not enough to be annoying.

There are none Red Hot Chili Peppers are still going strong but are leaning towards a less rock sound, still good though.
I like The Stokes, The Hives, the Vines, but they are really Brit-rock oriented and I don't know if they have new albums this year.

Best thing I could tell you is go backwards on the rock timeline, perhaps all the way into blues, the present and future looks very bleak indeed for rock. Personally I'm content with my Zeppelin, Floyd, Hendrix, and the like until the end of time.

Many magazine article say that Wolfmother is the new thing in rock but really they are just revisiting 70's metal, and I haven't heard much, but what I have I recommend. Tenacious D is good for classical metal taste with a comedic, 2000's twist. And if you know what 70's metal truly is you'll know I'm not advocating this slayer, screamer, death and Satan stuff that reminds me of a crackhead Sabbath/Kiss bastard child that forgot how to play or sing and developed one hell of an attitude.

try last.fm for a search of similar artists, pulls up some weird stuff but you never truly know what you might like until you hear it.

Velvet Revolver, Army Of Anyone, White Stripes, Kiss, Foo Fighters, Drive By Truckers, and Red Hot Chili Peppers are all good. If you want classics, Pink Floyd, Kiss, Van Halen, t-Rex, Cheap Trick, Rolling Stones, Aerosmith. Go to your local Best Buy and paruse the music section. Their music is priced nicely and not edited.

Umphrey's McGee - hear their free podcasts on iTunes so you know what they're about.
Unwritten Law is fairly new, and, while punk-y, know how to play really well and make interesting songs.
