Dad said they are not allowed in the army but might be able to be a cop if they were big enough. Are they allowed or not allowed?

they can be whatever they want.
they are in the military, its just not advertised. and despite what people think most soldiers don't care if you are gay or not, as long as you have your buddy's back...no pun intended.

listen there are all types of jobs out their that have gay people working for them. and yes in the military that is not allowed but believe it still goes on. i work for the government for 6 years and out of my three i have worked with the active military navy army, marines etc. and have been asked out by guys on dates many times. some of the bases that i`ve worked on have had a mixture of the police working with them, and there were a few that i new was gay or bi. but they kept it under the rug. so any job that u go to get will say that they have no problem with gays. but underneath their skin they don`t like it. and i have watched court tv, A&E about gays working as a policeman, fireman, etc. and have had to gone through hell with it. so a lot of them just keep it quiet.

Well, any form of discrimination against gays, including restriction of marriage and parental rights, is wrong. Being gay is hardly a hindrance and while it isn't a personal issue for me, it may help to have more gays on the force, so that they can deal with any issues of harassment or hate. Of course, they must be suited for the job and good with people, but it could help. It would help for the public to see they are everyday people in everyday situations, making the streets and homes safer in the community.
