I would advise installing the CD first (printer disconnected). Then shut down the computer > connect the printer > restart the computer and your operating system (Windows 2000/ME/XP) will detect the printer and correctly name it using the software.

Although the above should work, you may wish to refer to the reference below from Lexmark - they actually ask you to connect the printer via the USB cable and ignore any messages.

Good luck my friend!

in basic terms plug your printer into the pc at the same time as that's on. you ought to get a sprint field down interior the excellent hand corner that announces "installation drivers" which will take a minute or so and than the printer would be waiting to apply. you will locate your newly put in printer interior the commencing up menu below units and printers.

Those settings must be for a network. If it's the only printer just call it Lexmark. I didn't have to do any of that stuff. It was automatically done thru the installation CD.

Any name can be. The purpose is to let you access the printer more easy and to distinguish different printers if u have more one printers connected.

Chances are that all you need to do is unplug the printer, uninstall any printer software you have to that printer, then, assuming you're using Windows XP, go here:

Save the file, remember where you save it, run it, and when it asks to connect the printer, do so. If you just click next, next, next, you'll probably solve all the issues. If not, let us know.

I assume you are trying to use the add a printer wizard, if you have an installation disk for your printer, use it instead and you shouldn't have any problems.
