Depends on the outfit. Last night I wore a pair of brown capris with a black tank top that has little wooden stars around the neck. It looked cute with black sandals.

Yes. Just use your judgment.

For example, a black top would go with chocolate cords or slacks. Or a brown belt on a black outfit.

Oh yes they do. But I think the trouser or skirt should be black. Now close your eyes and let your Imagination work on these combinations, like,
Brown Shirt and Black trouser
Brown and Black printed Blouse on Black Trouser or Skirt.
Black Blouse with Brown and golden embroidery
Brown Blouse with Black Embroidery
Lets think about Eye Makeup.
Brown eye shadow border with black eye shadow or liner and for highlight Copper?

Yes, I feel it does. I like to wear really dark brown shoes with black pants and jacket and a tan or earthy color shirt. You want to make sure the brown shoe is is dark brown and not light brown.

Hi yes it can go - but you do have to be careful. As your earlier (and just as straight and male as me) poster pointed out - brown shoes with black trousers can be a mistake - but it depends a lot on the shade *and* the texture of both.

For tricky combinations like brown and black or blue and black then you just have to try it and trust your judgment.

Good luck!

No, this is not the best combo. Both are dark and neutral and compete for the eye's attention. It's a milder version of wearing red and green together...not blinding, merely disturbing. It tends to look morbid.

It all depends on the shade of brown, some shades of brown go very well with black and other shades do not match at all.

the brown has to be lighter for it to match the black. it looks good with it especially if one item has a little bit of the other color in its design

They can go together. -At least this season they can.- I think that I saw this in the Oct. issue of Vogue. Ultimately, wear what you feel looks right. As long as you do not go completely overboard, you can wear anything as long as it is with confidence.
