Yes, but not naturally. What is left after butchering a cow is ground up and mixed in with their meal. Cows are being fed dead cows and other animals by commercial operations. You really do not want to know what goes on in commercial agriculture.

This is how mad cow disease spreads. A prion is a mutant protein, primarily in nerve tissue, and when injested by cows causes mad cow disease. Every tissue in the flesh of a cow has nerve tissue, not just the brains, like the commercial interests would have you believe.

Overcrowding on feedlots also helps to spread a number of infectious and contagious diseases in the human food chain.

All that being said, their is a low risk of mad cow disease(BSE), or it's human version, variant Creutzfeld-Jakob's Disease.

of course they do. while they are eating the grass or hay, they are also eating little insects on the blade of grass or hay, thats where they get most their protein.
