It is because the UK is situated next to the Republic of Ireland and the west winds blows some intelligence over to ye!
I know alot of Americans and can tell you that they are quite intelligent. Intelligence is not just what you know, it is how you apply it also! So questions like these just prove that ye are a very insecure race.. It is said knowledge is power, but wisdom is the most powerful of all even if you haven't 2 pennies to rub together.
We just let ye think ye are superior but in the reality it is the rest of the known universe that is!
And also for Ian R's info Ireland is not part of the UK, Never was or ever will, so please get the facts straight... Just because the red coats came over, took over and tried to own Ireland years ago, doesn't mean that Ireland is in the UK.
Ireland is a seperate country, seperate currency and seperate language in some areas, even have a distinct different accent. Please do not insult our intelligence..

The answer is we are not. I know some very stupid British people who think they are superior to foreign nationals although they can't explain why other than we are supposed to have invented "most" competitive sports and occupied most of the world at one time or another over the centuries. By asking this question you are proving that we are far from being superior and I can't believe I'm actually replying to it.

I do think that publicly the American way of life is portrayed as superior. But if it is so good - why are there so many poverty stricken people in America? They really need to improve their social policy! And realise that poverty is socially constructed and a consequence of capitalism and not an individuals fault!

And people from the USA are very simplistic and naive about the rest of the world!! Which is embarrassing some times! They should look deeper in to issues more!

The USA as a nation is very immature, and sometimes should follow other countries lead instead of trying to lead all the time. they some times rush in where angels fear to tread!

But I don't think that any body is superior, just different! Altho I think you can always tell the answers if they are from USA, dude!

but don't take stuff so seriously, we are all from the same gene pool!!!

Kerry K:- what about the killing of all the buffalo to destroy the Native American way of life thus destroying a whole people? The US citizens have just as blood thirsty past as every other nation!

No the average American would probably say Glasgow was in Kentucky! (There's a Glasgow in Kentucky in case any other Brits thinks I'm being extremely rude.)

We British are not superior to the Americans. I have many American friends and American 'strangers' are usually very polite and friendly. The problem is with the USA as a Nation. They do tend to come across as if they think they are better than anyone else, whether or not they actually do think that.

In a similar debate on here the other day many Americans posted that they are the most generous country on earth and do more to help other countries when in trouble. I remember clearly, however, that at the time of the Boxing Day Tsunami in SE Asia Britain gave millions of pounds more in aid than the USA and our country is smaller than almost all of their individual states.

When I visited the USA on business the man who looked after us was extremely charming, but treated us (in a very kindly way) as if we had crawled out of a cave somewhere and had to be introduced to everyday items as we clearly would bever have laid eyes on cola or Mexican (and various other types of) food before. The top of that particular habit of his was when he took us to a fondue restautant (in Atlanta) announcing "You won't have tried this before" and looking totally bemused when I asked where on earth he thought fondue came from but Europe!! The receptionist in the Hotel asked if my UK driving licence was 'an out of State licence' despite me having handed him my British passport about 30 seconds earlier. Why on earth would he suppose a British person would have a Georgia driving licence?!!

Added to this, despite many Americans constantly acting as if the US won both World Wars single handedly, they didn't enter WWII until after they had been attacked themselves. Also the main reason why the IRA has stopped bombing Britain and agreed to a ceasefire is because New Yorkers stopped funding them after 9/11 and they found out what it's like to be blown up whilst minding your own business sitting at your desk getting on with your job. Something we've been putting up with for years.

Also why why why won't you do anything about Global Warming. Don't you realise that the reason why your're getting so many more and stronger hurricanes, leading to what happened in New Orleans, is because of Global Warming? In fairness no you probably don't because your newspapers are not reporting those facts to you.

My personal feelings on this particular debate is as follows: individually Americans are on the whole charming, friendly, polite and good company. As a Nation they really need to take a long look at themselves and how others see them.

I'm british but i really don't understand how anyone can think that. please read these facts;
- Everyone is human, where people come from makes no difference
- Some humans are dumb as planks, some are really smart, regardless of nationality
- All humans will be selfish and greedy, particularly if they will definitely get away with it.
- All good deeds are selfish
Anyone who cant understand these facts are definitely not superior to anyone.
I'm sick and fed up of hate crime, racism sexism and homophobia. People should be guilty about how they waste their lives moaning about other people and discrimminating them when there are so many more things to think about.

It's all in your ego. Kindly remember that it was the Americans that saved England's rear end in the second world war. The colonies whipped a superior power when we sued for independence. It was American engineering that produced a better frigate, the USS Constitution as a fine example, that pummeled anything British that she came across. And now, because of your country's bad dealings with the Jews, your country is now a third rate power that needs America to help you with anything that your country wants to do. Don't be a twit old boy, we are allies, honor that, and remember, post WW1 England began to lose it's place as a world power while America became a world power. I think your ego needs a bit of a change. A t least we did not visit homes and burn people in Churches as history does show that one of your aspiring officers did in the Revolutionary War. I believe that British Pride and Prejudice needs to become British Humility.

What, in Gods name, are you talking about?! Of all the mindless questions asked in YA that is by far the most ignorant and dangerous one Ive ever heard. Hitler, Mussolini and other nut jobs of our recent past started toying with ideas of superiority and look where that took us. For the good of all, keep your idea of national/blood supremacy to yourself, or at least try to justify your question and not make outlandish wide sweeping generalisations.

No one is better than anyone else. Not all Americans think they're the best, and I'm sure not all British folk are as big of a douche as you. You are one of the reasons why people can't get along. Way to go.

Side note: Not all Americans have poor grammar.

I agree we are a better nation than America. If it was not for us British America would not have had TV. Telephone and 100s of other inventions. 90% of them are stupid and believe anything you tell them. They cant even spell properly and are very loud and impatient. They are fat as well. They are also so stupid that they don't know that gods country (UK) is in fact made up of 4 countries, England, Scotland, Ireland and wales. They refer to it all as England. That just goes to show how bad there education system is there compared to here. I bet if you asked the average American where Glasgow was they would say England. So yes we are superior.
