Emo is a word used by people to stereotype other people. It's just another one of those "jock" "prep" words, except this word is used to classify people who are extremely emotional (EMOtional). Usually the people classified have certian haircuts, cut their wrists, cry a lot, etc. Personally, I think it is wrong to call a person that because one does not know what kind of life they live. Somtimes, people who listen to My Chemical Romance are considered emo, but I love that band and I do not think anyone would consider me emo. Emo is short fo emotional. Emo people are either constanly depressed, constantly pissed, constantly both, and always dress sort of goth. They listen to depressing/dark music, and cut themselves. emo is when you kinda have a small emotional breakdown. they usually tend to want to give themselves more pain to try to ward off their real pain so thats why they cut themselves. the reason that they dress in black is because black is usually refered to death and sadness. in a way, the emo kids are close to death because some wish they could crawl under a hole and die... im really sorry if i stated this in a negative way but.... another thing... i agree with the person above(sry) goths dress in black but they love the dark . we emo people (and yes im emo just not into the stage of cutting myself yet) like darkness AND light
gothic people DON'T cut themselves!!!!!! that's the biggest difference... ok im crazy and ill leave it at that because i've just realized ive been talking you guys in a circle... T_T im sorry my bad *cry*

Such as the way you act, or dress.
It's not just a style...
Its the way you feel basically.
Okay and its not the (oh they just dress in black) thing.
I know and im tired of being called goth myself b/c there is a difference between goth and emo.

Emo is technically short for emotional. . .at first it was a genre of music, but now it's a social clique in which these "emos" dress in black and wear hardcore rock clothing and stuff, they also have a tendency to have abstract or simply fugly hairstyles. . .yah, plus they are known to be over dramatic and to be cutters. . .
