I'm trying to write a short song to sing to my girlfriend to knock her off her feet. Would like to write a rock love song. Easy for me to remember not into any other type of music.

Yes. They mostly wrote songs which handled as an alternative stange matters... mostly slightly bizarre lyrics. Love songs? Nirvana wrote About a Girl, which might be interpreted as a love tune... the identical is going for Drain You. Stories? Not that I recognise of... Funny Songs? Beans, they're on helium.

by this point in your relationship you probably have some mushy little statement that comes to mind every time you think of your sweetheart. that's your chorus.
then fill it in the rest with imagery. mix realistic imagery with symbolic imagery. the symbolism is mysterious and seductive, while the realism keeps it from being "um... what?"
last but not least, add a couple yearning compliments in where they fit best, things that come to mind when you feel like you really want to see her. not like "your eyes are brown like chocolate and chocolate tastes sweet so you're sweet"... avoid being analytical. it should be irrational: "your hair is the silk that weaves my dreams"
that'll make a really powerful love song. but if you just want to make a funny love song forget everything i just said.
