Actually, NO. Do NOT do a nursing assoc. degree and try to do premed. it's a waste of your time. a lot of those courses will NOT transfer to the 4-year program. Pre-meds and nursing students take different versions of bio, microbio, chem, and anatomy/phys. If you try to do both curricula, you will wind up repeating classes.
if you wanna go to med school, take medical pre-requisites:
1 year general chem w/lab
1 year general bio w/lab
1 year general physics w/lab
1 year organic chem w/lab
1 year English
You can take all these courses at a community college. just ask the guidance counselor at the school for the course numbers of classes that can be transferred to a 4-year college for pre-med.
Linkin made a good point, though. Nursing is lucrative, and you WILL be distracted by the money. Considering that medical schools will put you into six-figure debt, if you really want to do something good for society and good for your bank account, stick to nursing. But if your calling truly is medicine, then go straight to it.
And University of Phoenix? No. Don't go there. To a certain degree, med schools do pay attention to where you did your coursework. Do you need to go to Harvard to go to med school? no. But you will hurt your chances with University of Phoenix. If you want to get a baccalaureate degree that will look good to med schools, go to a reputable State school or private college that is NOT for-profit. A little selectivity in admissions goes a long way.

As long as you fulfill all the med school requirements, sure. VERY rare for that to happen tho. Just warning you.
Especially once you get your nursing degree. Too many shortages and you'll likely be making too much money and working too much to bother getting a bachelors and spend more time to become a doctor.
