everything momma gets, the baby gets!!

I believe once one is a mother and nursing, they need to take good care of themselves. There is need to check the lifestyle and what is taken into the body because the baby depends solely on the mother and if for example alcohol is consumed we should know that baby is fed the same alcohol as well. I believe Milk of magnesia is safe though if taken in moderate amount. Laxatives are good for baby since they help in constipation.

Milk of magnesia should be safe, as well as stimulant free laxatives. If she does take something it is best to take it right after nursing the baby, so she is least likely to be nursing during peak levels of the drug. Check out kellymom.com for many nursing answers, it's helped me out.

i am breastfeeding. After my c-section they gave out stool softeners at the hospital. Dulcolax i think. It really had no effect on my son. Your friend should make sure she eats enough fiber and fresh fruit and veg, so that she doesn't become dependent on laxatives, as that is dangerous and may affect her baby.

Everything she puts into her body will affect the baby. From what you are saying she seems to need fiber. Tell her to up her fiber with high fiber foods(cereal, beans, veggies) & a suppliment. She won't need the laxatives after a few days.
