Just go to your Mom and be straight forward and honest, Mom I think I might be getting ready to start my period. What do you think? Then tell her how you are feeling. I'm sure she will welcome the chance to discuss it with you.

Just because your Mom started one week before her 13 birthday doesn't mean you will. Some people start later in life. Tell your Mom that you are worried about it and you need advice. Don't be ashamed. She will gladly talk to you about it. It is not bad. Some people do have rare cases in which they have lots of pain. I have never had much pain. When I first started I had mild cramps. It felt like I had stomach cramps like I had to go to the bathroom. They will be mild for the most part. Some people experience severve pain but that is rare most people unless they have a medical problem experience mild to moderate pain. Tenderness of the brest usually comes before the period. Mood swings can come before the peroid comes. I was told by a professional that excessive caffeine can make breast tender. Hope that this helps.

You need to understand that your not your mom. Yes in some cases it is genetics that it can determine when you might possibly start but not in all cases. I started I think when I was 11 or 12 (5th grade), and my mom didn't even start until she was almost 16. A lot of my friends were the same way, they started completely different from when there mom's starting age.

I was scared to talk to my mom so I actually told my best friend who told her mom, and then etc. etc. and my mom came to me. Tell her your close to being 13 and you just want to be prepared before it happens.

Very simple you need to go to your mom and tell her the truth.

"mom I think im starting to have my period and I have questions on the whole experience and how i deal with it day to day"

your mom will guide you though the different aspects of it such as 1) preparing for it 2) when it happens 3) dealing with it when it is here 4) knowledge of why it is happening.

Its best to be prepared for what is happening to your body before it happens so you are not scared and panic when it does happen.

if your mother does nto give you any guidance then post back.

or you can ask you an older sibiling i.e older sister

Well, I hope your mom has discussed her experiences with you. I did not start until about 16, my two younger sisters started way before me! There are so many different things a woman experiences before and during her period that you can't really explain them because it may be totally different for you. Some of the usual stuff is cramping in your stomach and/or back, soreness in your lower areas, feeling like you are filled up with liquid or being "bloated", crankiness, sometimes feeling depressed, etc. It is best for you to talk to your mom about what she experiences because your body would be similar to hers.

Young Ladies start their period at different times and it's and OK thing to. Nothing to be scared about at all. Not scarry. Just another something going on that day.

Ask your mom what was it like when she got her period. She just mite have a funny story. That makes it easier to talk to moms. It's kinda hard sometimes to talk to moms about that, cause you don't know what to say.

If you want, you can go to store and look at pick out a type of sanitary napkin so that you will be ready. ALLWAYS with WINGS seems to be the best kind.

Period comes one day by itself. I won't come just cause you are thinking about it.
Because you will go shoppping, you can just have fun with your friends and do what makes you happy at home and . . . . . . . here it is.

It's a SURPRISE! and cause you are asking questions, you will be ready. Congratilations!!

If you have more questions, you can IM if you want.

Honey its really not a big deal. To start with you might get mild cramps and notice a brownish discharge on your underwear. Just say to your Mom, hey mom I think I'm getting my period! She wont freak out and she is probably already expecting you to start soon anyway! She knows you are growing up and wont be surprised. You are growing up and on your way to becoming a woman, talk to your mom as soon as possible, Good luck sweetheart.

Well, just let your mom know exactly what you're saying here... she can also tell you what to expect since it sounds like you are pretty connected biologically. It's hard to say what your experience will be since there is a large range. I just know that if I were to do it all over again I would pay attention to looking after myself better.... I would eat vegan, like I do now, and I would give up stuff like sugar, overly processed foods, coffee, tea and chocolate, and I wouldn't have smoked for 25 years....

all the best!
