I take it to mean that they performed the same things they did on the dead and that includes removing organs, I do not know if in that time they used something like voodoo to keep her alive to feel pain as I am pretty sure you would not live through being dissemboweled.
Unless I have gotten mummification confused with something else.

The procedure consists of the basics of mummification, without the removal of organs... so the person is coated in the various binders, wrapped, then buried alive...
Kind of nasty.
