Not North India but I did camp a couple of nights in the country outside Delhi and I got really sick - don't even know what from, I wouldn't recomend it - look for the most sanitary hostels you can find...

What do you mean by camping?. People live everywhere along with stray dogs and wild animals.

yes! i did the region here is all most hilly the is countary here is really the most pleasant one the rivers the natural beauty its extremly exotic !its the best place to visit india

camping as in trekking? then yes i did in himachal pradesh and kashmir.
it was an awesome experience, planning to do it again. :)
