OSU has a losing record against the SEC and got their a$$e$$ handed to them by Florida. So much for an undefeated season. I give the SEC props, I am convinced that it is the best conference in college football.

The Difference in quality between conferences is the most overrated, over analyized thing in NCAA football. A bunch of games played in January, when everyone has at least a month off has very little relevance to how good the teams were in November. Hell, Ohio State played the championship game after like 52 days off. What other sport in the world do you have 2 months between the season and the championship? Those who would use the schedules as proof ( "look 5 of the top 25") seem to forget those are voted. They're not facts, they're opinions. As such, they are proof of nothing. The idea that if Michigan, Ohio St, USC or any other good team in the nation was in the SEC, they wouldn't survive is just fandom taking over reason. If LSU was in the Big Ten they might win this year, but they wouldn't dominate over a period of time, no one does in ANY conference. Any one who thinks the Big Ten is a joke should remember that Penn St was in the top 5 just about every year until they entered the conference. Every Conference will catch up to any team. The ACC took its toll on Miami and FSU. USC has lost 1 game out of conference in 5 years. They have lost to UCLA, Oregon St, and Cal while beating Arkansas and Auburn badly in that time. Does that mean the Pac 10s better? no it means they know USC better and can gameplan more effectively for them. There is a world of difference between beating a team you haven't played in 10 years on a neutral field and beating the same team when they know you, consider you a rival, and you travel to their place. Overall, I think the SEC is the best, but its a negligeble difference and its by no means every year.

I came to the conclusion around 10 years ago that the SEC is the Best Conference in FB...however, Jeff, (the Big East guy with a prior answer--and a great observation about how underrated Wisconsin is this year) makes a compelling case that the SEC is down this year....I think the SEC has not been to it's calibre for the past couple of years...not to say they still aren't an excellent FB Conference, just that either
1) they're slipping, or
2) others are catching up
(or a combo of both of the above)

Jeff is correct. The Big East went 5-0 and will be awarded the best conference based on their bowl record. The Big Ten the Big 12 and the Pac 10 had down years but are traditionally stronger... I would put the SEC in the top six after the four mentioned conferences and the ACC...

Uhhhhh yeah!! Th BIG10 and SEC went head to head three times this bowl season and the SEC is 1-2. Check the stats before you make comments like that. Even historically the SEC has only won (after this season) maybe 10-11 more games over the BIG10 when they play in bowl games. Its something like 37-26 or something going back to 1932. That's not quite dominance my freind!!

nope, with ya on that one.
LSU kicked butt also. SEC is consistently very strong. We say it all the time.
Big 10 used to be it, SEC is strongest conference without a doubt.

sec is tough but not the toughest. I would defiantly say the Big Ten is still the toughest even after the loss tonight. Michigan went without losing a game all year until Ohio state. Ohio state and Michigan are always top ten teams not to mention Wisconsin only lost one all year to Michigan.

sorry, but big east went 5-0 in bowls..
louisville, much like florida, had only one loss, which was to a tough ranked opponent..
west virginia and rutgers were only 2 losses a piece, and they both won their bowls against tough teams..
auburn did win the cotton bowl, but they barely squeeked by a meciocre nebraska team
arkansas failed against wisconsin.. another one loss team that seems to get overlooked.
lsu beat notre dame, but heck, anybody coulda beat them!
overall, congrats to florida, but i'm still not necessarily ready to admit they are the true undisputed #1 team..
gotta have a play off and beat louisville and boise to get me as a believer..
