You are right on the money. People are in such need of something to fill their lives that they have to watch others. They really have tried everything...their job sucks, they had kids and neglect them...they need something to fill a void that they created.

Yes many people are obsessed with current "stars" ect but maybe it's just like any other intrest/hobby. I love history and like to play tabletop games so I have spent lots of time and money on book ect over the years. I'm obsessed! I don't think it's unhealthy and I guess it's better to have some kind of intrest than not.

Tonight I opened up Yahoo News and saw that the US had bombed Somalia. And that there were more dead in Iraq. And that the documentary in which Steve Irwin was killed. And rapes, murders, blah blah blah.

And frankly, I gotta say - my day was bad enough on its own. So I turned to EOnline. It's sad but true. I can either spend an hour reading about the world going to hell in a handbasket or I can go read fluff online that has absolutely zero impact on my life and/or my mood.

Bring on the fluff.

To me its a way to feel "special". Because so-and-so is such a great entertainer or sport figure, they want to be like that person. And in order to be like that person, they need to look, walk, talk like that person and know everything about that person. The irony is that we are all special.

What do Sandra Bullock have in common with Eddie Murphy? Aside from being successful entertainers, they learn to be themselves and not try to be someone else.

Looking at the lives of the rich and famous gives us visions to inspire ourselves to strive for the same greatness in our lives. Visualization is a process where the mind creates mental imagery; our desire uses this imagery to motivate us. Some of the greatest thinkers believe that THOUGHTS BECOME REALITY; this wishful thinking is helping us bring into our reality this greatness.

I absolutely agree. I do not understand. It is one thing to watch tv and relax, unwind and forget your own problems, but then you have those who become so obsessed with celebrities or characters that they begin to imitate them, from clothes to make up to characterisms, attitude and speech. We have young girls wanting to dress like Britney and Christina do on stage, and people idolising idiots like Paris Hilton. Reality TV is to blame I think. And think about, what exactly is real about it?

maybe they find it entertaining to watch the troubles/life of someone else. many of the people also look up to celebrities as their role model so maybe that's why they're dogging them so much. finally, maybe some people can relate to them and the things they go through.

They are considered role models, and yes it is extremely pathetic, but I guess if you want to be "cool," then watch and do what the "Oh so great" celebrities do. Celebrities are just as much human as you and I are, so Yea.. I agree. WTF!!
