My boy had that too. We had it in conjunction with Chorroid Plexus Cysts (spinal fluid in the brain) We had to have a Schedule II ultrasound, because they thought it might be a genetic thing...BUT the Good news was that the cysts don't always mean anything & the dialation was just from the fact that he was trying to get his plumbing working (Urination) and the urine was going the wrong way, it cleared almost completely within the week between the first ultrasound & the second! Boys?! My son is a healthy, smart & handome guy of 3 1/2. I am sure you have nothing to worry about. Good luck!

Hi, I have experience of this.I could be that there is back pressure from the bladder to the kidney because of a faulty valve at top of the bladder. This is known as vesicouritary reflux and can be mild grade 1 needing antibiotics to prevent and infection,or as high as grade 5 needing surgery to correct. I feel that when your baby is born that the doctors will perform a simple ultrasound and x ray to see if they can see what is wrong ,if anything. If it is VUR You will be refered to a children's kidney specialist and then a test will be done under anesthetic to put a tiny camera into the urethra to see what they can see.It may be nothing , sometimes things apparant on ultrasound are nothing wrong, jsut individual to that baby.If it is VUR it is still nothing to wrry about it is fixable .good luck and don't stress.
of my 3 children, the eldest had grade 5 and needed surgery.my daughter was tested and had grade 2 only needed antibiotics for 12 months and my youngest son had grade 1 and needed nothing,it ws resolved int he younger two by the time they turned 3.my eldest has had no problems with VUR since his op at 1 year old,he had another problem with a stricture in his urethra, that resurfaced when he hit puberty, but one had nothing to do with the other.he is now a strapping 19 years old:)
if you want anymore info on this email me:)

I have heard plenty of circumstances wherein infants have a dilated kidney in utero and end up simply first-rate after they're born. I would not fear approximately it :) (i do know that is fairly problematic!)
