because red phosphorus is more stable than white phosphorus,
since red phosphorus is more stable because of all sides sourrounded by 4 other phosphorus bonds
but white is not like that so extremely unstable
hence it is used in matchsticks

White phosphorus is always kept in water.In open atmosphere it will fire easily .so we are using red p in match sticks is the main reason.
