8.A

#7

you make both sides have equal denominators. throw out the whole numbers for a second (4134 and 161)

2/3 and 1/2 have the same common denominator which is 6

so multiply 2/3 by 2/2= 4/6 and 1/2 by 3/3= 3/6

then plug the whole numbers back in.

4134 4/6 + 161 3/6 = 4295 7/6 = 4296 1/6 = B

#8

you make both sides have equal denominators. throw out the whole numbers for a second (5080 and 235)

1/2 and 2/3 have the same common denominator which is 6

so multiply 1/2 by 3/3= 3/6 and 2/3 by 2/2= 4/6

then plug the whole numbers back in.

5080 3/6 + 235 4/6 = 5315 7/6 = 5316 1/6 = A

Convert the fractions, the LCM is 2*3=6, & ADD:

7. 4134 2/3+161 1/2 = 4134 (4/6) + 161 (3/6).

8: 5080 1/2 + 235 2/3 = 5080 (3/6) + 235 (4/6).
