you turn 75% into a decemal by moving the decimal to the left two places. now its .75 and you multiply that by 36.

.75 x 36 = 27.00

or you can put it into an equation

x = .75 x 36 and x would equal 27.00

it is $27.00 off.

if you want to know how much it is. subtract the original price by how much it is reduced.

$36.00 - $27.00 = $9.00
price ^ reduced^ cost^

you can do that with ANY percentage problem like the one i just showed.

Steps
1. Convert 75% to a decimal. You move two decimal places to the left. There is always an invisible decimal point after a whole number even though it's not shown.
2. Multiply 36 by 0.75.
3. You arrive at 27. That's the amount that is 75% of the total.
4. You subtract 27 from 36 to arrive at the answer which is 9.

First calm down, percentage problems are easy. Second, how does your teacher want you to solve it? How much work do you need to show?

For this question, the item is 36$. That means that 36 is equal to 100%. The item is now 75% off. You can do one of two things.

36/100 = x/75
0.36 = x/75 multiply each side to isolate x
27 = x

Original price was 36$ - 27$ = 9$

or you can skip the middle man and say, I'll only be paying 25% of the original price, how much will that be?

same idea

36/100 = x/25
.36 x 25 = x
9 = x

What I do is simply deal with breaking things down to smaller percentages. In this case deal with 25% of the total $36.00 or just divide by 4 to get that number which would be $9.00. Now in this case since you are actually wishing to take 75% off of the original price that would mean the price is 25% of the original price so the cost would be $9.00.

You can also use a calculator to do something like this as well. You can multiply by .025 which seems strange but it is accurate.

I use my method as I do not carry a calculator and I do want to be able to figure prices.

75% * $36 / 100% = $27
So the answer is 36-27= 9

Just cross multiply in a box. (75 over 100 & 27 over 36).

I hope this helps!

convert (75) % to a decimal (0.75). Then multiply it by the total (36.00). Then subtract that number from your total and you will get your final answer.

(0.75 x 36.00) - 36.00 = your answer
how much off sub original total

trust me, my formula is the correct formula, haha i'm a college algebra tutor.
