I was just in bed watching tv about to fall asleep, and all a sudden my heart started to beat really fast and I felt nauseous, weak, and anxious. I'm really freaked out and now I'm not sure if I'm just pyching myself out. What can I do?

I use to do that all the time , and i later found out it was anxiety issues. Talk to a doctor if it keeps happening and he can determine if it's anxiety or possibly even depression. What i would do is just close my eyes and inhale through my nose for three seconds and then out for three seconds so you purposely slow down your breathing , and that will make you less anxious , and then i would just fall asleep after doing it for a while. but the rapid heartbeat, nausea, and weakness sounds like anxiety to me... maybe your stressing about something... who knows... but don't freak out about it because that just makes all your symptoms worse. IF it doesn't go away then call the doc...

Sounds like you may be having an anxiety attack. Here are some of the symptoms:

An anxiety attack is often mistaken for a heart attack as the symptoms are very similar. Increased heart and breathing rates, dry mouth, chest pains, loss of touch with reality, light-headedness, nausea, numbness or tingling in the extremities, sweating, and diarrhea are common symptoms of an anxiety attack.

These attacks are usually a result of fear or danger. Some things you can do to try to calm yourself are to deploy these on a daily basis:

1. Exercises
2. Breathing techniques
3. Deep relaxation with positive projection,
4. Meditation
5. A healthy diet
6. Creative self-expression.

Try to focus on NOT thinking any negative thoughts. Think about good times. Get an idea in your mind from sometime when you've felt so happy. This will help alleviate your anxiety. Good luck. Get some sleep & don't worry. Everyone experiences anxiety sometime in their lives. If it continues though see a doctor & they can help you with your problem~

It sounds like you are having what amounts to an anxiety attack. Are there many things that stress you out all day? Get a small notebook and carry it everywhere. Write down all that you need to do, and have already done. Then you can go to bed knowing that you won't forget anything. Other good insomia advice: turn off the TV, listen to soothing music and either read or write in a journal these have all been proven to lower stress levels. If none of that works, - ask your doctor for anxiety medicine, or something like Lunesta- a non habit forming sleeping medicine.

Hi,
Just relax.....and read Ya Allaaaaah ; Ya Allaaaaah ;
Ya Allaaaaah 100 times daily........You will really feel a difference. This is an Arabic word for God [who is the creator of everything viz; whole Universe, human beings, animals, and all the creatures in the world nearly 18000 species and who gives food to all the 18000 species and among them we(human being) are the best of the creations]...He is the creator of the Heavens and the Earth..So, ask Him for peace. Read Ya Allaaaaaah 100 times daily before going to bed and think of the creations
Allaaaah has made...Hope this helps u.

Go to a pharmacy that has a blood pressure machine (most do) and check your blood pressure. You might have hypertension, it is very hard to detect it, but easy to determine it. If your BP is 120/80 then you are doing fine; if it is 10 points or more then you need to see a doctor.

Next you need to practice good sleep hygiene. First get that TV out of your bedroom. For you the bedroom needs to be where you store your clothes and where you sleep. Next you want it dark at night, draw the shades, turn out the lights, unplug the night light (unless you really need it), and turn the clock down to dim. Then make sure it is quite as possible. If not then use a white noise generator. White noise is a constant sound or sound pattern that covers up random noises around you. I have a clock radio with Soothing Sounds; a train running, raindrops etc. But, I usually use a fan. The fan isn't too loud and I let it run all night long. I have gotten used to it so it is no problem. When you go to sleep you need to lay down and go to sleep, if you can't do it in 20 minutes then you should get up and move to another room for 20-40 minutes before you try to go back to sleep.

An hour or so before bedtime you need to switch to a lighter schedule; read a book or magazine, watch a calming TV show quietly etc. Warm milk also helps. You don't want to eat a lot before going to bed since that food will have to sit in your stomach for a while, but you don't want to be hungry either. Avoid foods like chocolate, a lot of salt, candy, and anything that raise your BP.

Over the counter medication that can help are Melatonin (a natural sleep hormone) and Valerian Root. You can find both at most pharmacy stores. If you sleeping problems continue then talk to your doctor about getting a prescription for Trazadone, a very mild antidepressant used to treat cocaine addictions. It isn’t very good as an antidepressant, but it has a major side effect of making a person drowsy and it works quickly. I have taken the drug for many years at a wide range of doses with few problems.

If your sleeping problems continue then you will need professional help, see a doctor. I have had chronic insomnia for over 15 years, so I do know what I am talking about. If you need to talk with me more then you can contact me via my Avatar.

I have a strong suspicion that you have hypertension. If you get your blood pressure checked then you will know. It may or may not be high though so you should see a doctor. It is hard to pinpoint the stress that contributes to high blood pressure and your diet can be a major factor as well as your weight. High Blood Pressure (hypertension) has almost no symptoms and it is very hard to tell if you have it. You symptoms do sound like it though (but I am not a doctor). It is possible to manage your blood pressure with a simple pill. If you reduce your weight, improve your weight (you can have hypertension if you are too thin), and reduce the stress in your life. But, sometimes the most stressful things in life are the ones you meet every day; like a messy room, disorganization, or a chore that you hate to do and feel guilty for not doing them. I currently have high blood pressure, but it is under control and I am doing well in that department. My mother had hypertension, but when she retired from a stressful job she got better and no longer needs the pills. So you can come back from hypertension and if you do have it then it won’t be the end of the world.

A lot of people have mentioned anxiety or depression, which are valid cases. In that case you need more help than I can give, so see a doctor. If you are diagnosed with depression then don’t worry “you aren’t broken” only one organ of your body is having problems. Because it is the brain though it is harder to handle. I have chronic depression as well (yes, I am medically screwed up) so if you get that diagnose you can talk with me about that. If you contact me via my Avatar our identities will still be as protected as they are on Yahoo Answers. I can promise you I am not a stalker or some fiend, I am just someone who may have some advice for you (which is why I hang around this board).

It could be any number of things. Consider if you are taking med's or have been sick lately it could be making you feel off. Are you worried about something? Have you been drinking too many caffeinated drinks which could sometimes make you jumpy.
Try not to eat after 8 pm and don't have a bunch of lights on when you are wanting to relax.
If this goes on more than 2 weeks, I would talk to your doctor.

It's an anxiety attack. They can be triggered by absolutely nothing at all or stressful situations. Tell you doctor your symptoms. He may prescribe something (xanax, ativan, Prozac...) or give you some type of breathing techniques. Don't freak out about the prozac, it's used for lots of disorders.

Welcome to the club. I have to get up early and I can't get to sleep even though I'm exhausted, so I wandered back to the laptop. Now I dragged it up to bed so I'm *closer* to sleeping. Put something boring on TV, this is too interactive. I don't have a TV in view of bed or else I'd try that instead of this.
