My son's girlfriend's mother made a comment to her about my husband and I not allowing our 18 year old son to drive on New Years Eve. We didn't say he couldn't go out or sleep over his friend's houses just that we didn't want him on the road since we are afraid of drunks on the road. My son's girlfriend's mother made a crack to her like "What kind of parents are we that we won't let him go out and have fun...blah blah blah". What do you think of this comment?

It's very reasonable for you and your husband to not want your son driving around on New Years Eve because there are a lot of drunks out on the roads. You didn't say that your son couldn't have fun, etc. His girlfriend's parents should be glad that their daughter is with a young man whose parents care enough about him to care that he is not driving around on New Years Eve, with their daughter, putting her life in jeopardy. I would ignore her mother's comment. I understand why you'd feel irritated by it. You raise your son as you see fit, and if it doesn't jibe with his gf's mother, tough shi*. Happy New Year.

The important thing is that your son respects your opinion. His girlfriend didn't have a choice of parentage. Kids are still impressionable at that age, when parents talk to them. Even your sons girlfriend should understand your concerns.
