The doctors say it is irritable bowel syndrome. I am scared that it is something else. The pain, when it comes is dull and constant, and every now and then it gets worse, then gets dull again. It has been going on at least a year. Eating doesn't seem to affect it. Any guesses?

I had the same symptoms. I was diagnosed with G.E.R.D.
Gastro-Esophigal-Reflux-Disease. It was kind of like acid reflux, which cause some major heartburn and pain. They found it by doing an Upper G.I.
They prescribed a pill called NEXIUM, the purple pill. After a week of taking the pill, pain was gone. it has been over a year now.
You might also want to have them check your Gall Bladder. It will give similar symptons. They check it by doing an Ultra-Sound to check for stones, or they may do a Hydascan, sp?. A Hydascan is where they inject a nuclear substance into your arm that lets your Gall Bladder and other organs kinda glow while taking a picture of your insides. I do not remember if it was an x-ray or ct scan, but either way, it was painless. The nuclear stuff does give you a hot flash feeling. I had this done twice.
Hope this helps, I know your feeling like CRAP, so Goodluck.

Sounds like constipation. If you do ultimately cross to the toilet (#two) and you continue to have the ache then the medical professional might examine for an ulcer. Drink tons of water and develop recreation ie, opt for a stroll, You too can purchase over-the-counter stool softener. If you cross #two and also you would not have the ache after that you're going to realize what the intent was once. Feel bigger quickly!!
