I became a CNA to get into the field before deciding if I want to pursue my RN/BSN. I cannot tell you too much since I'm new but so far I am enjoying it more than I expected. From classmates and coworkers who know more I can tell you that you pretty much need to have an "in" like know someone to get into a hospital, often even if you do have experience. Most often you need a year of experience in a long-term care facility before you can get into acute care/hospital settings. This made me very hesitant before actually trying it, so far I find it very rewarding (not just poop-duty) and the day goes by really fast because we're really busy.

The nurses I know who started as CNA's all say they felt more prepared and did better because of the experience. It's a good place to start. It's usually only 6 weeks to get certified and pretty cheap as far as schools go, so you should consider doing it!
