Someone backed out of a parking spot as I was driving by and raked the side door and rear panel of my 93 Honda Civic Coupe. In my opinion, the door is repairable with some good "stucco" or whatever they call it, but the damage to the panel behind it goes in a number of inches. It's not a part that can be simply removed and replaced.

Does anyone have any rough estimate as to what it could cost as I'm concerned this will cause the insurance to total the car which I don't want because the car is worth way more to me to keep it. I'm going to get estimates myself, but would like to have some sort of general idea.

The rough estimate thus far is about $3,000+, just so you know.

the word you were searching for is "bondo" if the door is not too bad using a dent puller and bondo may work. the part behind the door is called a "rear quarter panel... and it should be a part that can be taken of replaced by any auto body shop. however, if that is replaced, the new panel is usually a dull grey or black in color, and will need to be replaced. without seeing your actual damage it would be very difficult for me to give an approximation. i would reccomend: 1)calling a dealer, or parts provider, and getting the price of a new quarter panel 2) add about 200 for the door repair 3) then subtract the previous sum from the quotes you recieve from auto body shops. the remainder is your labor cost...take the cheapest one... good luck!

It's hard to give you an exact cost, but a rough guess would be in the ballpark of $1,000. Most of that cost is in labor for body work to repair the panel and doors to like new condition. It's possible to find the door parts in a junk yard, but that's costly also.
If you look at the Kelley Blue Book value for your vehicle, it's in the range of $3,000 in good condition. So unless the repair is close to that, the insurance won't total the car. Also, can you get the other person's insurance to pay for the repairs? Since they backed out and hit you, they should be responsible for the repair.
That should also mean you don't have to pay a deductible!
Good luck!
