You need to rewash them and add non chlorine bleach to the wash cycle or either baking soda, vinegar(white or cider), ammonia, or borax to the rinse. The reason it smells is because of bacteria growth while sitting in the washer. Any of the things mentioned will kill the bacteria.

This happened to me but rewashing STILL didn't get rid of the smell. I ended up getting new WHITE towels. BUT, I decided since the old colored towels were now going to be rag towels I might as well toss in the bleach and not worry about the colors. Guess what! Not a single color ran. I couldn't believe it. Now I have a bleach dispenser on my machine and this might make all the difference in the world, but what have you got to lose? The worst that can happen is you get some new towels.

You have to rewash them. I use a capful of Biz Bleach (it's a powder) in my laundry, esp the towels, and it helps to prevent that sour smell, either from sitting in the washer too long, or from being wet after being used. I get it at the grocery store. Good Luck!!

perhaps they are staying damp too long formerly you employ them back, air them interior the dryer and positioned a softener which you purchase on a roll on the food market in with them. Wash them frequently in heat water. I wouldnt use bleach until you elect to shrink the colour of your towels in an fairly little while.constantly wash your towels seprately to different clothing, they only fluff up different products besides.

Re-wash in COLD water and detergent. I never wash my clothes in hot water because it can cause clothes/towels to look dingey after a while. My mom always washes her towels in hot water and they look dirty after being washed. My step-daughter is always forgetting her clothes in the washing machine. I go to Costco and get the big bottles of white vinegar to keep in the laundry room for this and for setting in colors for new, brightly colored clothes.

I just rewash mine normally, no bleach or additive.
ALSO, using fabric softener on towels isn't a good idea, it makes them LESS absorbant.
