This is my first winter in my really old house. I am under the impression that the old radiators require some sort of key-like device that I would use to somehow release air trapped inside the radiators and make them work more efficiently.

Anyone know anything about this and where a guy like me could buy such a key? Thanks!

They're actually not as hard to find as you might think.

Many hardware stores still carry them, as do some plumbing and heating stores. I would check the local businesses before looking into any major chains.

EDIT TO ADD:
I also found one through Yahoo Shopping, if you can't find one anywhere else.

You should be able to get a key at any plumbing supply store. If not just repace the bleeder, it'll come with its own key. They are cheap.

If it were me, I would watch over the shoulder of a plumber that I would call in to bleed one of the radiators, just to see what he/she uses and how they do it.
