Please help explaining me this quote:

"Siddhartha had one single goal--to become empty, to become empty of thirst, desire, dreams, pleasure and sorrow--to let the Self die. No longer to be Self, to experience the peace of an emptied heart, to experience pure thought--that was his goal."

I'm trying to help someone with this quote, however even I'm having trouble. Please explain it to me speciffically, I highly appreciate it.

He is seeking "pure truth" without human bias from selfish fears or material desires that would otherwise cloud his judgment. Like seeking the pure wisdom of God without human limitation or fallibility. To empty his mind of attachments to perceptions of the past or concerns for the future and see clearly in the present.

If you want to make an analogy, I would compare the meditative mind to a blank slate or screen where the plain truth can be seen.
