A tightening of your tummy coudl indicate Braxton HIcks contractions (nothing to worry about...its like false contractions that are your bodys way of 'preparing' for labor later on)...

However, Braxton Hicks contractions do not last for 10 minutes....they last only for abotu 60 seconds if that...and come and go...

Is your whole stomach feling hard...or only on one side?
If it is only in one area/sie...it could be your baby 'leaning' and resting against that part of your uterus. It will cause a tight feeling and pressure in that area...and obviously the baby can stay there for 10 minutes with no problem.

As far as the back pain...that could be from a Braxton Hicks contraction (although they do not tend to bring on that much back discomfort)...
But if it is your baby loungin around inside...she/he can be putting pressure on nerves in your back or on different muscles.

Also, since you are to the point where you should be showing by now, if you are bigger in the belly, you could be leaning backwards to 'balance' yourself (most women do this further along than you are). But that woudl just make your back hurt...not tightening in your tummy.

I woudl mention this to your doc at yor next visit. If your tightening comes in a regular pattern (ex: comes every 15 minutes and each lasts for 90 seconds) then call your doc ASAP, or go to labor and delivery...those coudl be real contractions.

Good luck and congrats!

I am having these too, but they are not always contractions. I am on home uterine monitoring for pre term labor, and they don't always report as contractions. I have noticed it happens more at night and with gastric upset (gas or a too full tummy). But my baby moves right through it. Also I have hip and back pain with it. 10 minutes would be a long time for a contraction. Also, my uterus feels like that when the baby pushes or rests against it. There's a lot of things it could be..but speak with your doctor to make sure!!!

I am having contractions, but I don't feel them. The monitor picks them up though, and I have cervical shortening.

Definitely call your doctor tomorrow and let them know. Keep a look out for signs of preterm labor - like change in discharge or blood. Also, drink lots of fluids, as dehydration can cause contractions! Oh, I am 32 weeks, 3 days.

Good luck!

Sounds like you're in labor now and that's great - avoid inducement, it hurts more. I would try doing something like walking around or changing positions, taking a shower, eating, see if a change in your position or activity level makes the contractions stop or if they keep right on. If they continue, chances are good you're in labor. Lots of walking will help work baby down and speed up labor. I would call your hospital to see what their criteria is for coming in (i.e., 2 minutes long, 5 minutes apart for an hour or whatever) and let them know what you've been experiencing so far. Congratulations - baby is on the way!!

Just a braxton hicks contractions, they are not intensive enough to cause dilating, they just prepare the uterus for the delivery. I have been having they from 22. weeks {I am 36 now} and they are just going to be getting stronger as you will be closer to the delivery. It should feel like tightening of the uterus, right? I have been having like 20 - 30 of these a day, usually when I am walking or doing something. What can help is magnesium supplement, then they won't be so strong. Good luck!

no i did not have that. bt do not worry for that will only make things worse just call your dr. or a nurse line or local hospital explain in great detail what is going on and they will be able to help you. but honestly if i was you i would go ahead and head to thehospital cause it sounds to me like it could be labor or false labor. rather safe than sorry right. plus if it is labo and the baby is fine (which im sure he/ she is) then they can stop your labor. or keep you in there just to monitor you and baby. but dont worry and stay calm. you dont want to put stress on the baby

personally would skip calling the doctor and go straight to the hospital. My son was born 9 weeks early and spent many weeks in the hospital. Dont take any chances!

You could be having false labor. But I would check with the doctor if you are real worried just to ease your mind.

that sounds like it could be pre term labor. you should call the hospital's labor delivery dept or your dr's office to find out who's on call but don't wait, if it is preterm labor it may not be too late to try and stop it. good luck
