we've been called worst gordon. I dont think its that bad I'm one and proud of it. Its when the term newfie is combined with stupid or some other in appropriate term; that, is when it get offensive to me.

Just when they call me a goofie newfie.. lol. No , not really. I live in Louisiana so most people have no clue where Nfld is. So it's actually kind of nice when I hear someone from here call me a newfie, when they find out I'm from there.

As a 'Kiwi', I don't think being equated with an animal or bird is bad. If "Newfie" is meant derogatorliy, of course I would.
If it's just an expression to indicate where you come from - why worry?
I 'insulted' a US guy from Texas by calling him a 'Yank' - he was quite quick to point out, technically, Texans had never been "Yankees".
If it bothers you, try and get over it.

I am a Limey with a Polish father living is Canada, and I get called a newfie all the time.
So am I a limey pollock newfie cannuk ?
I married a French Canadian - Nova Scotian
So my kids are limey pollock newfie frog bluenoser cannuks
But whats in a name !

I dont find it offensive. Its not like it really symbolizes something bad. So I dont mind it, in fact i call myself and others Newfies all the time!!

I'm not sure why you would? I'm from Manitoba, living in Ontario and I get called "Toban", "Flatlander" etc. We call people from Saskatchewan "Gappers" etc
