Hello =]. I want a snake, and my mom said i could get one, only if my dad says yes. I need a way to convince my dad to say yes. My birthday is coming up, and im going to tell him thats what i want. Im also going to make a report about the kind of snake i want and let him read it. Is there any suggestions to make my report good, or any other ways to convince him? Any suggestions would be helpfull, thanks!!

Thank you!! Im going to use all of your suggestions to try to convince him. Oh, and a lot of you asked why i would want a snake...I want one because i like non-domestic animals. I have had so many: Billions of fish, Cats, a hamster and a dog. I love snakes because there not every day animals, and i love the way they move, I pretty much love everything about them. thanks for all your help =]!!

Hmmm... Here's my patented method for convincing the parents your ready for a reptile, this is not guaranteed to work, but it does raise your chances.
First, get a book on the care and maintenance of the species you want. Knowing what you are getting yourself into is always a good thing. Remember, rat snakes (corn snakes, red rats, whatever you want to call them) can live over 20 years if they are taken care of.
Can't afford a book, check some out at the library, or even better, perhaps, "Dad, I'd kinda like a snake for my birthday, but if you think it might be a better idea, maybe some books on different types of snakes and how to keep them." This appeals to a parent's desire to know that their children are somewhat responsible. Heck, maybe he'll get you some books AND the snake.
Basically, you'll have to convince him that you're up to feeding it live rodents, cleaning a poopy cage, being ABSOLUTELY 100% SURE THE CAGE IS CLOSED, etc.
Also, bear in mind, dad will probably be more allowing of a corn snake or something along those lines with an average adult size of 5 feet or so than a burmese python or anything like that.
Good luck.

Fantastic idea! Why not have the report ready to hand him when you say that what you'd really like as a birthday present is a snake? Include what experience made you so interested in snakes that you wanted to have one of your own. Be especially detailed about how you intend to feed it, and keep some money saved if the snake gets sick and needs to see a veterinarian, and clean the snake's cage and, VERY IMPORTANTLY, how you will keep your snake from getting loose. It might not hurt to ask your teacher or your mom to check your paper for mistakes before doing a final draft. The harder you try, the more impressed he'll be with your sincerity (he loves you and will feel good that you've worked hard to impress him).
Remember, your dad worked long hard years to live in the home he is providing his family, and don't be mad if hosting a snake is beyond his tolerance level. You have many years ahead of you of being your own boss, and you could always try again next year.

A report sounds great! I know my parents love that stuff, as it shows that you really really want one enough that you looked up a bunch of info and learned about it to even write a report on your own time! Snakes aren't that hard to care for

They need a tank, they don't smell, they need a heat lamp, they only eat about once a week, and depending on the size (best bet for you is to get a small python, around a foot long) they only need a mouse. Ask your pet store what to feed him and when, and when you should give him something bigger. Most snakes eat pink baby mice, then eat adults as they get bigger.

just prove to your dad that your responsible and that youll take very good care of the snake... cleanning the cage. 2 times a week... changing the water every singel day.... feeding the snake once a week...they need a heating pad or heating rock! You have to be able to do all that stuff for a snake! Im sure if you told him and showed him that your responsible he will cave in! Just make sure you stick to it!

Go up to your Dad and say, "Hey, Dad, Thank you for bringing me up to appreciate the finer things in life. Thanks for all you do. I just want you to know I love you, Dad." Give him a hug and don't expect anything from him for a couple of days. Of course, he's going to wonder what you're up to... and will eventually expect you to ask for something outrageous.
After a few days, go back to him and just say, "Dad, I want a pet. I've decided that I want a snake". Whatever he says, don't argue with him. Be nice & calm. If he says, "Yes" ... then you have what you want... and if he says, "No"... Be sure to thank him for helping you to not make that mistake.
IMO ::: Snakes are stinky, nasty, terrible pets. They are snakes. They are not domesticated animals and have little or no brains for being kept as pets. Snakes do what snakes do, eat, sleep & sliver. There's absolutely no entertainment value, no quality relationship that can develop and besides, they are high maintenance.
I'd just say *no* to the whole snake idea. However, I do love to have snakes in my garden or garage, because they eat the mice and keep unwanted pesky wabbits and other vermin out of my garden. But, there's no way I'd have one, or as a parent, allow one inside my home. YUCK!
:-(

First of all, research the kind of snake you want a lot. Be sure you are able to feed it ONCE A WEEK. Let your father know that you've done your research and are able to care for a snake by yourself.
Also know that you will have to feed your snake mice/rats. I feed my corn snake baby mice. Make sure you are able to do this, unless you plan on getting a full grown snake that eats adult rodents. I got attached to one of my feeders and now I'm having to hand raise an unweaned baby mouse.

Turn 18, get a job *actually, do that one at 16* and move out. Then it won't matter ^_^.
Or do as I once did when I wanted rats. Come home carrying a cloth bag, open it to opposing parents to expose desired animal and say "I found it in the yard and it was friendly, can I keep it?" And later reveal to them that you already bought the supplies, as well as spent $$ on finding the snake in the yard.

tell your dad that not all snakes are poisonous or fatal, there are also snakes that can be tamed and make a deal with your father that if you were not able to take care of your snake pet properly then that will be the time that your father will prohibit you from having a snake pet

If he doesn't want you to have one, then you won't get one. I don't really know, cause its really hard to change parents minds, and its even harder when one says yes and the other one says no, and 10 times worse when one says you can IF the other one says yes. I personally would not get a snake because they freak me out and I would be scared that it would get out of his cage and hurt or kill someone.
