It gets my husband and I annoyed. We have to keep lowering the volume each and everytime a commercial comes on. We have comcast as a cable company. Any ideas why this is and any suggestions? Thanks.

The commercials really are MUCH louder than the programs. There are supposed to be federal limits as to how much louder they can be, but no one enforces them. I have Comcast too, and have noticed not only the commercials, but also that some channels are much louder than others. Fox News and the TV Guide channels are very loud compared to most others. I hate it!!! Maybe we should all switch to the dish!!

When the volume goes up at the start of the commercials, it is my cue to mute the TV until my show comes back on....or switch channels. Unless I am not in charge of the remote-- then I'm forced to watch the dang commercials. I don't mind too much if they are funny. But I'm tired of seeing 18-wheelers flying through the air with a load of cars, and other stupid things like that.

They do have such a device that will cut out the commercials or its' volume, but can't remember what it is called. You can program it somehow. They do that for a marketing reason and is very annoying. I wonder they do that to annoy us for a physiological reason too. I really hate the loudness, but I don't mind the commercials. Some are funny to watch sometimes.

It's called marketing. The volume is louder on commercials to catch your attention.

Attention getter. It isn't nearly as bad as it was years ago. I do believe they have some sort of regulation about how many decibles louder a commercial can play compared to the show that's on.

Commercial soundtracks are intentionally re-processed using a technique called "compression" which makes the whispers sound as loud as the shouting. Its intentionally irritating to attract your attention. It used be prevalent during AM radios heyday also.
