Emo's a genre of music, short for emotive hardcore.
ANYHOW, regarding the stereotypical definition of emo, then that would be a NO. Your sister and friends are just teasing you. Liking a shade of color, watching some cool shows, and learning about thethings you like, does not make you emo. It's just your choice of interest.

Cut themselves?
This may help, as sub cultures go, most people would say your a Maud or I call your folks "Daypires". Characterized usually by a flair or appreciation for art, dark fantasy and darkish, skaterish, trenchcoatish, striped clothing. Usually nice and fun folks....
The Emo thing is convoluted.
There was a group who called themselves "Emo" kinda as a joke, and they had a whole kind of music too. (1989-1999)
I would describe them as rebellious anti corporate "do it yourselfers" who believed in expressing all emotion(including happy ones, and not socially correct ones) and music as catharsis where central to their subculture. There music was not often pretty or sad for the record.(mostly insane,thrash-metal, anything goes now sometimes called"screamo")
They had a group within their circle called "Scensters" who fit the Modern term "emo" better; they were into fashion and being general "dandy" know it alls, but also into "screamo" for some mysterious reason.
This kind of Emo is still around, just less so, and many do not refer to themselves this way as they are well aware of the confusion.
To make things even more confusing, years after they were almost no where to be seen, this term Emo started circulating again. I asked what they were talking about I got varied responses such as, depressed, hair in face, tight jeans, "cut themselves" etc and they too had a music, but it was typically melodic, folk and singer songwriter style.
Two subcultures, Two musics...some very stretched simularites.....but.....two totally different things sociologically.

My theory is that the mix up was from either misguided little brothers and sisters of the former "Emo" trying to badly describe themselves with a word they little understood, or just an unrelated event in which the media made up yet another fabricated fashion/music/culture thing, not realizing the confusion, or the obligatory conspiracy theory, that the corporate media confused things on purpose because the old emo kids had a music scene that effectively made the "music industry" no money. Who knows.
Hope this helps.

I think an emo is someone who wears way too much eyeliner and black clothing while listening to mellowed out punk - enough to be a fashion statement, too scared to be a full on goth. What is dark?? I think fashion magazines and movies with happy endings are the scariest things in the world. I like vampire stuff, love beetlejuice and occasionally wear all black. So what! Who cares about what they think- If someone feels the need to label you I think it is because they do not know you... For pure shock value and a bit of entertainment, why not dye your hair blonde, wear heels, all pastel colours, and way too much make-up for a week and then see if they call you Paris Hilton wannabe??

If you know that you're not what they say you are, then you're not. What your sister and her friends are doing is called stereotyping. It's like saying that people who have criminal minds end up in jail. Having a tattoo is a tradition that is practiced by people in jail. Therefore, people who have tattoos have criminal minds. Of course you know that's just plain silly. Before having doubts about yourself you should first analyze how the idea came about and who said it. Is your sister or any of her friends an expert on telling people's character? How did they arrive at their conclusion? Did they consult some expert on this subject? I'm not saying for you to be indifferent to your sister's ideas. Try to understand her. She might just be over protective.

If you start asking yourself if you are what they say you are, there's a chance that you will be convinced that they're right. It's called the power of suggestion.

Investigate first before you make conclusions. You're the only one who could tell yourself who you are.
