I am not sure if this is correct but I have read that the appearance of Asian people's eyes comes from an extra layer of fat under the eyelid and that the extra layer of fat possibly evolved in order to protect the eyes from the extreme cold of the upper Himalayan regions.

I do not know the explanation of why but I learned that the eyes are not slanted, but there is an extra fat layer in the upper lid that give the eyes that appearance.

OK, matahari was typing when I decided to answer or I wouldn't have bothered. BTW, the term is Asian not Oriental.

The same way your eyes are straight (horizontal ), their eyes are slanted. there is no special reason.

They have one advantage, they look younger longer. We will get droopy eyes when we become older !

Probably none. It is just a random mutation that neither helps nor hinders the survival of the owner.

In the U.K. the term is not a slur as it is in the U.S.
